Scholarships to Study in Costa Rica

National Scholarship Fund (FONABE)
The Ministry of Education of Costa Rica has formed a system of scholarship through the National Scholarship Fund. This scholarship system is for low-income pupils who wish to study in Costa Rica.
Types of Scholarships
Postsecondary Scholarships
Eligibility: Students who are registered in public or private university or para-university for completion of their bachelor degree studies, and who demonstrate a poor socio-economic condition are eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarships for Preschool and Primary
Students who are enrolled in preschool or primary school and demonstrate an educational and economic vulnerability are covered under this scholarship. This scholarship covers the educational expenses and helps students to be a part of the formal education system. This scholarship is given annually.
Ages
- Preschool level: 4-7 years old
- Primary level: 6 to 16 years old
Scholarships for Children and Adolescents at Social Risk
Children and adolescents below the age of 18 who are registered in any form of study-primary or secondary educational levels, supported by the Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica and who demonstrate a socio-economic vulnerability are given scholarship. The scholarship is given annually.
Age limit:
- Primary level: 4 to 12 years old
- Secondary level: 12 to 18 years old
Children, Adolescents, Youth and Adults with Special Educational Needs
Pupils of any age with special needs at any educational level-preschool, primary, secondary or prevocational, and who demonstrate an educational and economic vulnerability are covered under this scholarship.
Ages:
- Primary level: Up to 18 years old
- High educational level: 12 and above
